Join our team at National Bank Financial Wealth Management. Your territory will be Toronto, South-Western Ontario and the Maritimes, the selected candidate may be located in Toronto, Ottawa or SW Ontario.

We have over 700 Investment Advisors in 85 branches, helping more than 260,000 clients manage their assets. The mission of this role is to provide specialized estate planning services primarily to the internal clients of the Advisors within National Bank Financial. This role also provides personal trust services to affluent clients as part of a complete financial, tax and estate plan.

As an Estate Planning Professional, you will act as an expert by offering guidance to high net worth and ultra high net worth clients by providing a sophisticated level of expertise in estate, trust and tax planning as well utilizing the products and services offered through the National Bank Financial and the National Bank networks.You will assist clients achieve their estate planning goals and objectives by suggesting strategies based on a wide variety of services tailored to their specific needs and objectives.

To ensure the optimal positioning of the Wealth Management Group, you will collaborate with business partners to determine objectives and establish business development strategies. You will also maximize the profitability of your business development activities by advocating a comprehensive approach jointly with your colleagues and investment advisors.

In addition, you will act as Trust Officer providing timely, accurate and professional administration of estate, trust, tutorship, curatorship and power of attorney over accounts, maintaining excellent relationships with all the beneficiaries, executors and trustees.  You will be supported by an administration team (back office) for this part of your role. 

You will build relationships based on trust with referred clients in order to foster their loyalty. You will also initiate proposals that go above and beyond the needs of clients. You will be developing the estate planning advisory service within National Bank Financial as well as identify and create business opportunities for the range of services and products offered by the National Bank group of companies. In the course of your activities, you will be required to address the ever-changing needs of our clients by adapting and optimizing National Bank Trust products and services as well as business development approaches.

What about the day-to-day activities of the position?

  • Provide estate planning services to high net worth clients and ultra high net worth clients;
  • Implement strategies to develop the approach of Advisors, regarding estate planning, with their clientele.
  • Assume a leadership role in your area of expertise;
  • Maintain internal and external visibility as an individual with a high level of expertise;
  • Solve problems and encourage the various parties to work together, become involved and implement concrete measures to achieve goals;
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with all involved parties in the sector’s activities, specifically by motivating others to achieve common goals;
  • Stay on the cutting edge and be a leader in your field of expertise with a view to ensuring the evolution of processes, systems and work methods;
  • Act as an expert advisor to management and make recommendations that enabling the entire organization to achieve its strategic goals.

  • Bachelor’s degree in law and ten years of relevant experience or Master’s degree in a related field and eight years of relevant experience;
  • Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada or Provincial Bar Association
  • Successful completion of MTI, STI or TEP designation
  • Accreditation in taxation, an asset
  • Significant experience as an expert advisor and/or Trust officer
  • Expertise in estate, tax and trust law
  • Experience working for a trust company or a portfolio management firm
  • Business development experience
  • Ability to build solid professional relationships (internal and external clients)
  • Strong organization abilities as well as excellent communication skills
  • English language, written and spoken and French
