About the role

The Data team is a key strategic partner at NBIN, responsible for providing data services, reporting and support for all internal functions and external clients to drive better decision making. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Solutions, the Data Governance Manager is responsible for the creation and oversight of processes that govern enterprise data and information at NBIN. This role will be a major partner with the leadership team in the journey of valuating and investing in NBIN's data assets.

What you’ll do

  • Formalize and lead a data governance program at NBIN and enable governance functions for data across the organization with inputs provided by business team
  • Develop a Data Governance strategy that enables stakeholder engagement and education on guiding principles
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and data stewards to create and maintain common and centralized data definitions
  • Provide leadership and guidance on governance best practices for data creation
  • Collaborate with the Chief Data Office and Wealth partners on data best practices and data policies
  • Create documentation related to data management best practices and present to data stewards and stakeholders
  • Provide leadership on enhancing and managing data quality throughout the data lifecycle
  • Work closely with IT and business stakeholders to define data definitions/dictionaries creation and review process and guiding principles
  • Create data quality measures and institute controls and thresholds for monitoring processes to ensure data quality throughout the data eco system
  • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to define development standards
  • Formulate and lead a data governance council with a focus on using data governance to demonstrate value back to the organization
  • Assist with new projects or initiatives by analyzing impacts on data requirements
  • Keep up with the market on data governance topics and how it can be used with modern cloud and big data technologies

What you bring to the team

  • University degree in Computer Science, Data Management or any equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a data governance/management role or similar position
  • Minimum 5 years experience working with data quality
  • Minimum 3 years experience in SQL programming
  • Expertise in understanding global data protection laws and regulations including indepth knowledge of PIPEDA, CCPA and GDPR
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work effectively within a versatile team
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Well organized and ability to prioritize effectively
  • Experience working with visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau is preferred
  • Experience working with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure is preferred
  • Experience with big data technologies (i.e. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) is preferred
  • A desire to learn new technologies, innovate and be creative in achieving goals
