As a Senior Tax Advisor, Corporate Compensation at the National Bank's Taxation Department, you will work closely with colleagues in the Taxation Department, as well as members of the Accounting Department, Human Resources Department, Legal Department, Payroll Department and other business unit stakeholders.

You will report to the Senior Manager, International Taxation and will be responsible for closely supporting tax compliance in relation to the Bank's and its subsidiaries' compensation activities while supporting your partners in achieving their business and financial objectives in order to contribute to the Bank's results and financial strength. 

Your job

As a Senior Tax Advisor, you will be responsible for assessing and communicating Canadian tax requirements and options related to the compensation of employees and representatives of the Bank and its subsidiaries. You will act as an advisor with our business partners in order to propose solutions adapted to their needs to support the implementation of activities related to compensation paid by the Bank and its subsidiaries. You will interact with the various sectors of the Bank, providing support and specialized advice on tax matters relating to compensation. You will also participate in the development, implementation and application of policies, standards and procedures related to compensation taxation.

More specifically, you will: 

  • Provide advisory support on all tax matters related to compensation, benefits and various employee compensation programs
  • Work closely with your colleagues in the Taxation Department to ensure proper financial disclosure of tax expenses related to compensation activities affecting the Bank and its subsidiaries
  • Support and advise the Bank and its subsidiaries on special projects related to employee mobility and flexible working   conditions
  • Analyze, process and/or review information required for compensation-related tax compliance
  • Actively participate in compensation-related tax audits and conduct tax research
  • Ensure legislative and regulatory monitoring of tax measures affecting total compensation, analyze impacts and proactively communicate them to your colleagues and internal partners
  • Develop and maintain good relations and fluid communication with colleagues and business units
  • Support and participate in other tax-related activities as required

Skills required

  • CPA professional designation or be a member of the “Barreau du Québec” or the “Chambre des Notaires”
  • Completed graduate studies in taxation
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in taxation
  • Knowledge of the tax regime applicable to compensation, deferred compensation, benefits and payer obligations
  • Knowledge/experience in employee mobility taxation
  • Good writing and documentation skills
  • Thoroughness, attention to detail and initiative
  • Good team player and ability to collaborate effectively
  • Ability to work independently and good analytical and synthesis skills
  • Proactivity in proposing new ideas and motivated to continuously improve knowledge
  • Bilingualism (spoken/written) French and English required, as you will work closely with colleagues outside Quebec
