Join us in the Legal Affairs sector – Financial Markets and Wealth Management.
The department’s mission is to offer legal support to the Financial Markets and Wealth Management business units.
This position reports to the Assistant Vice President - Client Relationship and Complaints Advisory Services.
Your role
- Act as the resource person and advise the business units on legal and regulatory aspects of client complaints against investment advisors or the firm, and situations involving the protection of vulnerable persons, particularly financial exploitation, and incapacity
- Carry out a legal, regulatory, and financial analysis of complaint files, while detecting and evaluating the related risks (legal, regulatory, and reputational), to determine the position of the business units and to lead settlement negotiations, if applicable
- Advise and act as a risk manager for the business units in respect of all their activities and protect their rights and interests
- Issue opinions and advice business units on various legal and regulatory issues and make recommendations to ensure the development and protection of the firm in accordance with its business objectives
- Cooperate on regulatory investigations and disputes related to complaint files
- Interact with various external stakeholders, including insurers, external advisors, regulatory agencies, and dispute resolution bodies
- Law degree and 7 to 10 years’ relevant experience
- Member of the Barreau du Québec or the Chambre des notaires du Québec
- Experience in an advisory or consulting role
- Experience or knowledge in securities law and/or Canadian Securities Course an asset
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical and writing skills
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and French
Preferred competencies
- Experience in the protection of vulnerable persons an asset
- Knowledge of common law an asset
