A career in compliance and financial crime risk management at National Bank means contributing to the transformation and having a direct impact on clients.

As Senior Advisor – Screening, you will be the primary individual responsible for coordinating the operationalization of the Bank’s regulatory and financial crime management obligations for screening, including developing and implementing relevant models across the financial group.

Your role

  • Implementing and managing an effective oversight framework for screening activities across the financial group, including:

o Understanding regulatory and business needs in terms of sanctions, politically exposed persons, financial crime and bad press.

o Participating in a major project to overhaul our screening environments and managing the design, implementation and ongoing transformation of our screening models.

o Exploring large volumes of data and testing different modelling approaches to build high-performance screening models. Ensuring the quality and integrity of data used.

o Recommending approaches to optimize detection and reduce false alarms.

o Working with different stakeholders (e.g., IT, products, distribution networks) and working in solutions mode.

  • Ensuring continuous supervision (effective challenge) of the consistency of screening practices with the standards established by the Bank, including:

o Assessing the quality of screening activities carried out by various stakeholders in the processes (e.g., input quality).

o Tracking the portfolio of the various discrepancies/findings/recommendations affecting the processes under your responsibility to ensure resolution, including escalating recurring or lagging discrepancies.

o Contributing to the various internal certification processes and periodic certification processes with regulatory authorities.

Working in a versatile and dynamic team that creates sound value for the Bank, you’ll have support from six colleagues with a wide range of skills and experience in risk management, governance, operations and modelling. You will report to the Senior Manager – Screening and Regulatory Disclosure.


Required competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience or master’s degree and four years of experience in a related field
  • Sound knowledge, or ability to quickly understand activities and risks related to operational processes under your responsibility
  • Experience in process improvement and change management
  • Compliance or audit experience, an asset
  • Bilingualism, spoken and written (English and French)

Preferred competencies

  • Modelling experience
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize multiple activities and stakeholders
  • Strong ability to exert influence

This position will give you the opportunity to participate in major technology projects and develop your skills in modelling and the use of artificial intelligence.
