NBC Technology and Innovation Banking is growing rapidly and expanding across Canada.  In this context, the group is opening a new position for Director, Startups.  Work location: Montréal, Québec City or within the province.

The mission of NBC Technology & Innovation Banking is to support the best players in the sector with their financing projects ($1 to + $100M) from the startup stage through to capital markets and beyond, in every hub of Canada’s innovation landscape.

As Director, Startups you will be a privileged advisor to hundreds of small to medium-sized businesses, supported by experts, in order to guide them towards the most appropriate financial solutions.  It will be through your advisory role, your active listening and your knowledge of financial and banking products that you will stand out.

This position reports to the MD & Head - Technology and Innovation Banking.

Your main challenges

  • Meet business development objectives by proposing solutions adapted to your clients' needs;
  • Identify business opportunities in the sector for the Bank's products and services;
  • Identify, coordinate and participate in visibility activities in the tech ecosystem, such as forums, conferences, panel of experts, jury, etc.;
  • Ensure coverage with incubators and accelerators in the assigned Canadian ecosystem;
  • Carry out financial analyses and develop financing scenarios with partners such as sub-lenders and venture capital firms;
  • Negotiate the terms and conditions of banking structures with clients, ensuring that they meet the desired profitability criteria;
  • Ensure the application of service quality standards, as well as compliance with risk management rules.

  • Bachelor's degree related to the industry and five years of relevant experience OR Master's degree related to the industry and three years of relevant experience OR University certificate and seven years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of the Canadian innovative ecosystem and the lifecycle of a tech company
  • Network established with startups, small and medium-sized tech companies, venture capital companies, as well as various stakeholders in the tech ecosystem
  • Experience in growth financing
  • Experience in negotiation
  • Experience in customer service and business development
  • Knowledge of business banking products and services
  • Excellent collaborator and team player
  • Relational skills
  • Bilingualism (spoken / written) French and English
