I applied but I haven't heard back. What's happening with my application?
We always let our candidates know the status of their application. Successful candidates will be notified by phone. Other candidates will receive an email within six to eight weeks.
Do I have to apply to each job separately?
Yes. To make sure your application is considered, you should submit a separate application for each job that matches your profile. N.B.: You must submit your application through our career site; we do not accept paper applications.
I missed the deadline to apply for a position. Can I still submit my application?
We do not accept applications after the deadline has passed. However, we encourage you to create an online profile. Your profile will be visible to our managers and recruiters, who may contact you about other positions that might interest you. You can also set up email job alerts to notify you when a position that matches your criteria is posted.
Why was I sent a Request for additional information?
You received this message because the recruiter and/or manager needs more information to assess your application. By answering the questions, you can help speed up the processing of your application.
Can I edit my account options and preferences?

What is the minimum age to be eligible for a job at National Bank?

Do I need a work permit to be employed by National Bank?
If you are not a permanent resident or citizen of Canada, you will need to obtain a work permit that meets government requirements before we can hire you. The candidate is responsible for this process.
Does National Bank recognize degrees obtained outside Canada?

What are the dates I can apply for the scholarship?
Generally, we accept applications starting in March and the deadline is late April. For more exact timing, please contact your career centre for more details.
My official transcripts won’t be available by the deadline – can I send unofficial ones?
If you will not have current official transcripts available by the submission deadline date, please send us your unofficial transcripts. If you have been accepted into a post-graduate program and do not yet have transcripts, please send us a copy of your undergraduate transcripts along with your letter of acceptance to the program
When will we know if we’ve been selected for the award? Why haven’t I heard from anyone about an interview?
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we receive, we will only contact those candidates we would like to interview.
What if the program I am enrolled in isn’t business related? Would I still qualify for the scholarship?
National Bank Financial Markets values diversity which includes people with diverse educational backgrounds. Although business students certainly qualify for the internship, students that are not in traditional business streams are also considered eligible if they are interested in pursuing a career in capital markets.

About Summer Internships and Rotation Program FAQs in Financial Markets
When would my summer internship start and end? Are there fixed dates?
We recognize that universities do not have the same start and end dates so if you are offered a summer internship, we are flexible as to when you can start and end your internship. But keep in mind that the duration of the internships must be at least 8 weeks.
What is the salary for a summer internship role?
National Bank Financial Markets offers a competitive wage that is in line with other organizations.
How many students are hired each year?
Each year it varies depending on requests from our business lines, however, we generally hire approximately 30 to 40 students in total.
What it the hiring timeline?
The job posting is active on our website in early August and interviews will take place during September. For more exact timing, please check with your University Career Centre
How do I find out more information about summer internships or other recruiting opportunities?

What areas would I be working in?
There are several areas that you could potentially be hired in. We often have roles in Investment Banking, Fixed Income, Equity Capital Markets, Derivatives and Research. You could potentially be working in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary & Vancouver depending on the business lines hiring needs.
What can I expect during the interview?
Generally, the interviews will be based on behavioural type questions. You will be interviewed by a team of 2 people. Each team has their own interviewing style, so we advise students to be prepared for both behavioural and technical questions.
Who can apply for a summer internship with National Bank Financial Markets?
As long as you are still enrolled in a program at your university, all undergraduate, Master and PhD students are welcome to apply.
How do I become eligible to join the Rotational Program upon graduation?
If you are having a summer internship within Financial Markets and will be entering your final year at university in the Fall, you would be considered eligible for the Rotation Program. You will be evaluated during your internship and could potentially receive an early offer to join the program upon your graduation.
How does the Rotation Program work?
The Rotation Program includes a 8 to 10 week classroom and technical training program in Montreal. This is followed by approximately 4 to 5 months of rotations in each of the business lines specific to Corporate & Investment Banking or Sales & Trading. The rotations are primarily in Toronto and Montreal and participants are expected to be based in one of the those cities. We will provide accommodation when they are required to rotate to desks outside of their home base of either Toronto or Montreal.
Once I finish the Rotation Program, what happens next?
Once you have completed either the Corporate & Investment Banking or the Sales & Trading Rotation Program, you will be given a position in your selected area of Corporate & Investment Banking or Sales & Trading in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver. Exact positions will depend on the needs of the business lines, taking into account the preferences of the candidates.
